La directora explains que esa estructura no fue un simple fondo: changing the height of the actors, fragments the view of the audience and makes that every movement acquires a different scale.
La elección de un espacio abierto obligó a rethink each technical and scenic decision. El sonido, la iluminación y los.entry became part of an installation sensible, where the weather and the passage of the time were incorporated into the dramaturgy. The public entered a scene before the work began, while the city continued its activity just a few meters away.
La directora began with the space and from there investigated what it could mean to play there. She explains that the first rehearsals were devoted to measuring distances, testing sounds and observing how the performers related to the absence of a conventional theater. The objective was not to reproduce a traditional stage, but to create precise conditions for a singular experience.
The work with the performers was based on trust and continuous listening. Gestures, pauses, breathing and changes of rhythm were incorporated into the montage when they sharpened the emotional content. According to the director, the bodies of the actors did not have to fill the empty space; they had to reveal its tensions and possibilities.
Another decisive choice was to accept that the city could interrupt the scene. A siren, a conversation in the street or the changing color of the sky could alter the concentration of the spectators. Far from concealing those interruptions, the staging incorporated them as part of the pulse of the performance.
El cuerpo como material dramático
Theater físico was the central axis of the piece. The performers worked with weight, balance, resistance and the transmission of movement. Rather than explaining the action through dialogue, the production relied on the body to communicate proximity, vulnerability and conflict. These physical dynamics gave the rooftop a tactile and unstable character.
The relationship between individual effort and group coordination also became visible in the way the performers supported, accompanied or confronted one another onstage.
These actions were not presented as tricks, but as invitations to become aware of their physical presence within the theatrical space. The audience discovered that its silence and mobility also helped build the dramatic tension.
La guía del espectador recuerda que la interacción theater changes the relationship between the stage and the room. On the rooftop, this principle acquired a literal dimension: there were few physical boundaries, the actors could get closer, and every reaction remained visible.
The director points out that interactivity does not depend on constantly asking for participation. Sometimes it consists in allowing a spectator to delay an exit, follow another gaze or discover a second focal point. Those small decisions expand the interpretation of the work and make each performance slightly different.
Memoria, cuidado y experiencia colectiva
La azotea introduces a symbolic threshold between the building and the city. From there, the public could observe the urban landscape while remaining immersed in an intimate artistic encounter. That double condition gave the work a reflective atmosphere, capable of connecting personal memory with the experiences of a group.
The rooftop production approached that idea through attention, play and shared presence, without presenting emotion as a spectacle or forcing the audience toward a catharsis.
For the director, the importance of the staging lay in its ability to generate trust. The performers could expose their vulnerability and the spectators could choose how to accompany it. That mutual availability turned the open-air setting into a protective space, although one that maintained the roughness and uncertainty of the city around it.

After the function, only the traces of that temporary transformation remained, along with the memory of a group that shared an unusual encounter.
The work demonstrated that a rooftop can function as a theatrical space without ceasing to be part of everyday life. There, physical theater, interaction and urban landscape converged around a simple objective: make the public feel that it was witnessing something irreproducible, while allowing each person to experience it from a different position.
